Barber Quarters are popular with collectors. Barber Quarters were struck in Philadelphia, Denver, San Francisco and the short-lived New Orleans mint. Besides Barber Quarters, the U.S. Mint’s sixth engraver, Charles E. Barber, also designed the dime and the half dollar. Minted 1892 to 1916 Barber Quarters derived their name from the name of the designer, Charles E. Barber, one of the most famous and prolific of all designers of U.S. This series is so collectible, given the long run of dates and the fact that it was struck at so many Mints, including Philadelphia, Denver, New Orleans and San Francisco. TheBarber Quarters (1892-1916)has no major rarities, except for 1896-S, 1901-S, and 1913-S. Almost 265 Million coins were minted from 1892 to 1916. Designer: Charles E. BCCS Barber Quarters Rarity Ratings In 2006, the Barber Coin Collectors' Society conducted a survey to ascertain rarity ratings for Barber Quarters. Also, since coins do not wear in steps, there will be coins that are in between grades (split grades).
Please note that you should not cleanyour coins, as that will almost certainly reduce their value, possibly substantially. Coins that are cleaned, damaged, corroded,or otherwise impaired will be worth less than listed values.

About Good (AG 3). Heavily worn coin, no detail, and the rim around the edge of the coin will be worn into the stars and letters (see arrows for examples). | ||
Good (G 4). Few if any details on the front, but the rim should be full. On the reverse, all of the letters will be clear of the rim, which may or may not be full. | ||
Very Good (VG 8). On the front, any three letters of LIBERTY on the headband will be present (usually LI and Y). On the back, the rim will be full, and a few feathers will begin to show | ||
Fine (F 12). On the front, all of the letters of LIBERTY will be visible, but the bottoms of a couple letters may be very weak or missing. Laurel wreath has more detail. On the back, about half the feathers and most or all of E PLURIBUS UNUM will be visible. | ||
Very Fine (VF 20). All of the letters of LIBERTY will be easily visible. Still more detail in laurel wreath. On coins 1892-1900, the band under LIBERTY (see arrow) will be complete on VF30 coins (VF-EF). On the back, most of the feathers will be visible. | ||
Extremely Fine (EF 40). Light wear, most details present. On all but a couple of weakly struck dates (e.g., 1906-O, 1907-O), the band under LIBERTY will be complete, and the hair over the forehead will begin to show. On the back, the eagle's feathers will be completely separated to the tips. | ||
About Uncirculated (AU 50). Very light wear only on high points. Unless cleaned, there will be lusture, especially in the protected areas. Surface quality is important for AU grades. | ||
Uncirculated or Mint State (MS 60+). There can be no wear at all on the high points. Abrasively cleaned coins where lusture has been rubbed off high points do not qualify as uncirculated, as there is no way to tell if the coin was really still mint state before it was cleaned. Dipped or hairlined coins where lusture is uninterrupted by rub can still be considered uncirculated, though may warrant a lower value. |
